2010 ANNUAL BOARD MEETING

Jakirriah Yates                                T.J. Meredith                                 Rickey Burley

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Mitchell County celebrated eighteen years, 1992-2009, of devoted service at the Boys & Girls Club Teen Center on Monday, January 25th, 2010.

At the banquet, a gathering of over 50 board volunteers, staff members, spouses and special guests gathered to honor the Club’s award recipients.

Mr. Rickey Burley, member at the Jester Unit, welcomed everyone in attendance, and the Club Code was recited by Ms. Jakirriah Yates, member of the Camilla Unit.  The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Cameron Jones, also a Camilla Unit club member, and the National Anthem was sung by Taffee Ray, Executive Assistant at the Club.  The invocation was offered by Mr. T.J. Meredith, a member of the Pelham Unit.  All guests were then treated to a wonderful meal prepared by Debbie's Mainstreet Diner.  The entertainment during dinner was led by an array of club members from all Units.  They sang along with "If You're Out There" by John Legend while a picture slideshow played showing how club members have been leaders in their clubs and the community throughout 2009.  At the conclusion of the slideshow, club members thanked board members for their love and support.  They took their robes off, one child at a time, to reveal what they had become in life.  Doctor, lawyer, preacher, teacher, and fireman were among the many professions and leadership roles.  With outstretched arms, they collectively declared "Because of you!"

Chief Professional Officer, Ms. Ondrea Davis, began the meeting by welcoming everyone in attendance to the 2010 Annual Dinner Meeting of the Corporate Board of Directors.  Mr. Boyd Williamson, 2009 Chief Volunteer Officer, began the business meeting by giving a brief review of the past year.  Mr. Williamson then called on Ms. Davis to present several awards to dedicated board volunteers.  The following awards were presented:

Ms. Ondrea Davis commended Ms. Annette Williams and Mr. Harris Morgn for their dedication and service throughout the past year and presented them with a Perfect Board Attendance certificate for 2009.  Ms. Davis went on to note that while all board members volunteered their time and efforts during 2009 that there were two who were extremely deserving of a Volunteer Service Award.  She presented these awards to Mr. Boyd Williamson and Ms. Katie Thomas who provided essential assistance with everyday needs and maintenance of the Club.  Ms. Davis noted that anytime she called on these individuals, they were always ready and willing to do what they could to be of service, understanding that the children would benefit the most from their hard work.  Mr. Boyd Williamson took a moment to express his appreciation to the board for allowing him to serve as the President in 2009 and to continue the responsibility in 2010.

The next two awards presented were the Man of the Year and Woman of the Year Awards.  Ms. Davis noted that it was hard for her to decide who should receive these awards because there are so many on the board who are deserving of special recognition.  Ms. Davis presented Mrs. Susan Keigans with the 2009 Woman of the Year Award, thanking her for her tireless contributions and going above and beyond what is expected as a board member.  Ms. Davis noted that she is always ready to lend a hand, and she constantly puts forth a humble spirit in all she does.  The Man of the Year Award was presented to Mr. Kirk Pollock.  Ms. Davis thanked Mr. Pollock for his service during the past year and for always supporting the Club with his time and effort.

Next Ms. Davis presented a very special award to a very deserving individual.  She noted that this person is extremely dedicated to the growth and development of youth in Mitchell County.  He gives of his time and energy through the Club's Annual Golf Tournament.  He has been the chairman of the golf committee for many years, doing so unselfishly for no other cause but to pour into the lives of the young people of Mitchell County.  Each year he continues to push committee members to raise monies that will benefit the Club, and for that he will always be a Champion of Youth.  Ms. Davis presented Mr. Dean Daniels with the 2009 From the Heart Award and thanked him for his dedication to the Club.

Ms. Davis then expressed her appreciation for the groups’ commitment to better serve the needs of all of the youth in Mitchell County.  Mr. Rick Waters was then called forward, and Mr. Monterries Thomas installed him as the new Vice President of the Corporate Board.

Ms. Davis asked the new Board Members to come forward, and Ms. Ebony Jenkins charged them with many responsibilities, including letting "all decisions be made through clear thinking and unselfish purposes, centering about a single desire for the best welfare of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Mitchell County."

Ms. Davis then asked the entire Board of Directors to stand while Ms. Veronica Numa, Teen Center member, charged the entire board with the “tremendous responsibility of administering unselfishly to the goals of this non-profit corporation, whose real assets are not wholly determined in money, but in dreams and individual goals found in the souls of the many youth who are served by the Club.”  Ms. Numa closed by stating, “may you always be found doing the right and progressive things for this organization.”

Ms. Davis expressed her gratitude to the Board of Directors for allowing her to serve the Boys & Girls Clubs of Mitchell County and become a greater part of the community over the past year.  Ms. Davis stated that some of the Teen Center members wanted to share an interpretive dance.  They did so after she thanked everyone again for being in attendance and adjourned the 2010 Annual Board Meeting.
