The Boys & Girls Clubs of Mitchell County is now actively taking part in BGCA's Family PLUS (Parents, Leading, Uniting, Serving) Initiative
On July 12, 2007, Mr. Roney Mays, Camilla Unit Director, offered a Family Plus event in which twelve parents were in attendance. Mr. Mays reviewed plans for the upcoming school-year before turning the program over to members of the Southwest Georgia Drug Task Force who gave a presentation concerning drugs and how they affect children ages 5-12. They had samples of drugs and paraphernalia on-hand for parents to look at and ask questions about. They also did a K-9 demonstration where a packet of drugs was put in the Coke machine and the K-9 dog came in, found the package, and retrieved it. Presenters were Agents John Uphole, Michael Logue, and Justin Mobley along with Agent Uphole’s K-9 named Eagle. Investigator Melvin Ray of the Pelham Police Department was also present to give a brief talk about laws that apply to juveniles. ![]() Please check back weekly for more information about other upcoming FAMILY P.L.U.S. events!

BANQUET
The Girls Flag Football Banquet was held on Tuesday, April 17th from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Mitchell County Teen Center. Mrs. Tiffany Henderson - Boys & Girls Clubs of America Director of Sports, Fitness & Recreation, was the special guest for the evening and the girls thanked Mrs. Henderson for her continued support of the Girls Flag Football League throughout the past two years. Ninety-seven girls were attendance and each received a trophy and a bag of candy for their particpation in the 2007 Girls Flag Football League. Mr. Ben Hayward, Corporate Board President, also presented Mrs. Henderson with a framed picture in which all of the girls had signed.

![]() Over 600 Boys & Girls Club professionals participated in the 52nd Annual Southeast Administrative Conference in Atlanta from February 19th - 23rd. Montorie Lee, 2006 Southeast Regional Youth of the Year, spoke to group during the reception dinner held on Tuesday evening. Montorie expressed his gratitude for the difference the Boys & Girls Club had made in his life and thanked all of the professionals for their dedication in helping youth from all around the country succeed. Montorie was then called on by Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Staff to present one of the evening’s most honorable awards. ![]() At the dinner on Thursday evening, Ethier also received the Richard Ullom Rookie of the Year Award, which recognizes the outstanding contribution of new executives. Ethier was recognized for leading the expansion of his organization to 4 units, increasing the annual budget by 36% and increasing the management team by 75%. He was also acknowledged for serving as a Career Coach, serving as Chairperson of the Georgia All-Staff Conference, serving on the Planning Committee for the Southeast Administrative Conference, as well as serving as a National Training Associate.
